Well these Plaisted's of mine seem to have mystery after mystery, not sure if that makes them irritating or not.
In my family tree I have Samuel Plaisted b. 1874 Woolwich, London, England. In the 1901 census he is with he wife Marion Louisa Plaisted nee Brooke. With them is their 2 month old daughter Haidee b. 1900. In the 1911 census Marion is with her father William Brooke (Fruiter). It states that she has been married 12 years and has two out of three children, one obviously dying at a young age. The other child was Arthur Plaisted b. 1903.
Now here is where it gets tricky. There is no marriage certificate for Marion and Samuel Plaisted.
Marion Louisa Brooke married William Henry Bowden in 1891. Yes it is the same lady. Marion was 21 and her husband was 18. William Henry Bowden died in 1904.
To make matters worse.
Samuel Plaisted married Sarah Pearson on 21 Jun 1902 at Clapham Christ Church, London, England. The marriage certificate states Thomas Samuel Plaisted aged 33 years married Sarah Pearson aged 37 years. He is the son of Benjamin who was a publican. Yes he is mine. Yes the ages on the certificate are incorrect they should be 28 yrs for Sam and 39 for Sarah. On top of that Samuel has added Thomas to his name.
Samuel & Sarah do not appear in the 1911 census from what I can find in Ancestry.
By 1918 Samuel Plaisted was in the Merchant Navy. There is a death for his wife Sarah in Dec 1928 in Kent giving her age as 69 years instead of 63years. Her probate leaves her money to Samuel her husband.
Samuel Plaisted re marries in 1930 to Annie Sarah Downing. He died in 1960 aged 85 years.
So was Samuel having a long term affair with Marion Brooke? Or did he have a bigamy marriage like his older brother Benjamin Wilkes Plaisted. (another story)
If you ever find anything please let me know...........the mystery still stands.
